Life is so crazy, but God is good all the time.

Basically another representation of the yellow zone hahaha

First Post!

Hello Everyone!

Today I called Confrontation Point and told them I was coming back for the summer! Its a decision I’ve been thinking and praying about for a while, and I’m really excited to go back! I’m nervous, excited, anxious, happy, and joyful about this summer!

I decided I wanted to write a blog to record all of the adventures this summer. Last summer it was hard to stay connected with people, and I had so many fun stories and adventures I wanted to share with people! I figured keeping a blog would help me share my experiences as they happened, and keep me connected to everyone that I miss so much during the summer.

The title of the blog is “Hello Yellow!” Confrontation Point has many philosophies about group growth that I learned last summer. One of the philosophies compares personal growth to a traffic light. This is from one of my CP handbooks:

We view growth opportunities in our personal lives in three stages—the green, yellow and red zones.
Green Zone: This is the place we are comfortable and life is easy. It’s where we live the majority of our lives—it is the sustaining zone.

Yellow Zone: Here participants are placed in an out of the ordinary position where they are uncomfortable. This can often be a place of “perceived risk,” but is actually a safe place where growth can occur.

Red Zone: This is the danger zone where participants are placed in an environment that is so far away from where they are comfortable that they cannot grow because they are restricted by fear due to threats to their emotional, mental, spiritual or physical health and well being.

All participants will find themselves in different growth zones at different times throughout their experience. Our goal is that each individual would experience the yellow zone without entering the red zone.

Working at CP last summer put me into my yellow zone all of the time. It is such an uncomfortable, terribly wonderful place to be. Although I had many challenges last summer, I grew so much, learned so much, was connected with an amazing community, and had the best summer of my life.

This coming summer will be different, and full of new and exciting challenges that will put me in the darn yellow zone again, but I know it will be good to be. Growth cannot happen when someone is stagnant.

Lastly, I put the number 12 at the end of the blog url. (Unfortunately helloyellow was already taken!) This summer the seed thought devotionals theme is joy! I used 12, because James 1:2 says:

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

(James 1:2-4 ESV)

I’m going to try and find joy in all of my yellow zone experiences this summer.

My hope is to continue to update this blog this semester when I have thoughts, feelings, excitements, pictures, and jokes to share with all of you in the months leading to CP.
